Just on the edge of the Medieval Town of Semur en Auxois, this 300 year old house has been lovingly renovated by Patricia and her team of local craftsmen. Stone walls and exposed beams give charm to this delightful self-contained maisonette overlooking Semur en Auxois' s old medieval turrets. An enclosed rose garden compliments this picturesque setting.
The house has all modern facilities and has been furnished with family antiques. Suitable for both winter and summer stays, the house is fully gas centrally heated.
On the ground floor you will find a shower room, a separate loo, a hall with sufficient hooks to hang your coats in the winter-time, an open plan kitchen, sitting and dinning room. From here, you have access on to the garden where you will enjoy the sun, the smell of old roses and wisteria in the summer time. A garden table and chairs with a bbq invite you to dining al fresco in the evening.
You will access the top floor by a hand-crafted stair-case, the two comfortable bedrooms have a restfull feeling with a view of the medieval village.
The house is fully double glazed for even temperatures and quiet undisturbed relaxation. The house caters for 2 couples or a family with 2 children, a travel cot with linen is also available on request.
Fully equipped with Internet connections in the two bedrooms and sitting room, TV and radio.
It's location gives you, the traveler, the best of both worlds, calm & tranquility but, within a 5 minute walk you can be in the centre of town with all the bustle, weekly market, many shops, cafes and restaurants etc. No need of a car. If you wish to take your bikes, there is a bike stand in the garden, so that bikes are safely stored. The house has easy parking facilities .
Semur itself is a favored and well positioned destination of many visiting the Burgundy region. This medieval town is ideally set between Chablis to the North and Beaune & Dijon to the South with local Vineyards of Auxois close by; providing a perfect location for the wine & food lover. Historical villages and sites are also in abundance and within easy reach.
Discover 'La Bourgogne' whilst relaxing in this quiet house: explore an area full of history, visit the Abbey de Fontenay, the Chateau de Bussy Rabutin, tour the Vineyards , cycle or cruise the renowned canals of Burgundy or follow the footsteps of the Santiago de Compostella pilgrims to Vezelay .
Semur en Auxois is also surrounded by very lush and green countryside and is close to the Morvan National Park and therefore is ideal for travellers longing to step into history as well as being in the country.
Patricia lived abroad for many years, speaks English , French and Portuguese, and will do her best to help you if you require any information. She lives next door.
Many activities such as cruising the canals, cycling (bicycle rental - just ask for the link), hiking in the beautiful countryside, swimming in the beautiful Lac de Pont are available. A renowned Medieval festival not to be missed (End of May)
Semur is also renowned for painters, many painters come to Semur and love painting on the river banks and catch the glimpse of this quiet river l'Armançon.
